About Us

My name is MC and I have loved animals big and small all of my life, but have always had a special place in my heart for dogs.

I have worked in various capacities with dog rescues since 2001, adopting two of my own. My two rescued rat terriers lived a good, long life with me and were the best of companions. But when they grew old and the light dimmed from their eyes, I thought I would like to pursue performance sports, and would enjoy working with a larger dog.

After months of searching and waiting for just the right breeder, and just the right puppy, Firenze entered my life. Firenze was followed by Q and then Ninja. Together we have trained, competed and trialed in conformation, agility, rally, scent detection, tracking, and barn and brush hunt.

I have owned dobermans since 2012 and in that time have taken great pleasure in educating both myself and others on the breed and the breed standard. Working with the DPCC has allowed me to meet, and have discussions about the breed, with some truly fascinating and knowledgeable people.

My goal in breeding is to produce dogs that are not only sound of structure and temperament, with lines focused on health and longevity, but also dogs that are excited and driven to do performance work. As such, it is important to me to have dogs that have both conformation and working titles, and who undergo specific health testing for DCM and other known health issues in the breed.

I am a member in good standing of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), the Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada (DPCC), the Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA), and the Ottawa Kennel Club. In addition to being a member, I volunteer my time to the DPCC as well as being a Director on the executive BOD of the Ottawa Kennel Club.

In my spare time, I offer Rat Sports workshops, classes and practices. I am an accredited RATS! Canada Judge and the National Chairman, as well as the chair of the Ottawa Valley Barn Hunt Club, and trial host for both RATS! Canada and Barn Hunt Association trials. I am also a CKC Canine Good Neighbour Evaluator, as well as an American Kennel Club CGC and Tricks Evaluator, and I offer all these services through Soulstorm Dog Sports.

Health

The Doberman Pinscher breed, as with many others, is plagued with health issues. At Soulstorm we breed for longevity, temperament, conformation, and performance. It is a delicate balance with health being the supporting pillar for all of these elements.

Parents are tested for Cardio, vWD, eyes, hips, as well as thyroid and liver function. Many of these tests must be performed continuously as the results are a picture in time of the health of the dog at that moment, not a guarantee that issues will never develop. The best we can do at this point in time is to be aware of health and longevity in pedigrees, and breed responsibly.
